May 28 – He Is Not Far From Me

May 28, 2012

“And he made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their dwelling place, that they should seek God, in the hope that they might feel their way toward him and find him. Yet he is actually not far from each one of us…” – Acts 17:26-27

God created in every human being a desire to seek Him.  I was created unique (Gen 2:7) in that I was made in His image (a spiritual being) designed to glorify Him and to live eternally with Him.  God desires me to be in communion with Him through all eternity.  That is what He intended for mankind from the beginning.  Even though However, Adam and Eve sinned causing a separation and division between mankind and God. (Isa. 59:1-2).

As much as God desired for man to dwell in His presence, this was not possible because of the sin that he committed and bore.  They had to suffer the consequences for their actions.  1 John 3:4 says, “Sin is the transgression of God’s law.”

Paul says here that God is not far from each one of us.  He is within reach.  Interestingly enough, we must reach for Him.  He calls to us; He longs for us; He wants us in a relationship with Him; yet, He will not force himself upon us.  And so, He invites us to reach up to Him, to call on Him, to desire His salvation from our sins.

Let’s not be too hard on Adam and Eve.  They are simply representative of mankind.  They transgressed God’s law.  We transgress God’s law.  They tried to hide their sins.  That is exactly what we do.  Our sins are not generally willingly place on public display; no, we tend to run and hide.  Adam and Even could do nothing to save themselves from the punishment and the curses placed upon them; neither can we.  But God, in His infinite mercy, made a commitment to solve this dilemma. (Gen. 3:15).  The day would come when the Son of God would give a crushing blow to Satan, defeating him and the kingdom of this world.  That day would be a great day of redemption for all who would respond to His call.
