May 20 – Hallelujah! He Pursued Me

May 20, 2012

“Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.” Col 2:14-15

Remember, God did all of this because He loved man deeply and wanted what was best for him.  It was God who was reaching out to man.  It was God, who, from the beginning, wanted communion with man.  It was not because of anything that man was doing to deserve His love; rather, man kept messing it up!  So, we see God building the bridge to restore fellowship that was once there in the beginning.  The Jews were to be a light.  But of course, they did not always live up to the standards set up in the Law. A nd, through lineage of Abraham, from the Jews, came Jesus by the power of the Holy Ghost.

Jesus was the only one to ever fulfill the Law.  He was perfect.  He was the only one who could rightly become my sacrifice because I am a Law breaker.  I have disobeyed God (just as surely as the Jews did).  I am not good enough to stand in the presence of a righteous God.  What the sacrifices in bulls and goats could not do (because it would only temporarily forgive the sins), Jesus (being the perfect Son of God, sin-free, spotless Lamb of God), could forever forgive my sins (and the sins of all mankind who turn to Him) when he offered up Himself as the final sacrifice (the last one God would ever accept); and it happened upon the cross of Calvary.

Jesus took my sins and nailed them to the cross (Col. 2:14) and clothed me with His righteousness.  Through the power of His shed blood, I am saved – and it is only in effect when I, through faith, respond to His call, obeying the Gospel, and fully surrendering and submitting my life into His hands.  When I do this, I then come into contact with the saving power of the blood of Christ.  It is His work upon my soul.

“Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.” – Col 2:12
